Buhari launches the nation’s first oil mining project

On the border of the states of Bauchi and Gombe, President Muhammadu Buhari has officially launched the Kolmani Integrated Development Project (KIPRO).

Two years after oil was discovered in the area in commercial volume, Buhari led the groundbreaking ceremony for Kolmani Oil Prospecting Leases (OPL) 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site today, November 22. It would be the region’s first oil drilling location.

After NNPC began searching in some Northern States in 2016, oil was found there in commercial quantities.

Over a billion barrels of crude oil are stored in Kolmani fields, which might greatly increase Nigeria’s oil reserves, which have not increased in ten years.
