The US government has reiterated its position on the Nigerian elections of 2023, warning penalties and visa restrictions against politicians who want to obstruct democracy or incite violence.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INECdecision )’s to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and electronic transmission of results was also supported by the US.
At the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Association Annual Seminar 2022 on “Promoting Electoral Integrity in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges” in Abuja on Monday, November 21, Political Counselor at the US Embassy in Nigeria Rolf Olson addressed on behalf of the US Government.
According to lson, the US government will not be running in the future elections.
He commented on the upcoming elections in 2023 by saying: “It never ceases to amaze me how often we see comments, claims, and assertions from people in social and traditional media about what our supposed objectives are in the elections, which candidate or party we support, and how to interpret certain statements or actions of ours in terms of what it means about our intentions or perceptions.
“In actuality, especially when it comes to the elections, I believe it’s fairly easy to read us. Let me be very clear on a few crucial topics since we always strive to be transparent in our messages:The United States does not endorse any one candidate or political group.
