Lagos orders an investigation into an alleged patient sexual assault

The Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, HEFAMAA, has been ordered by the Lagos State Government to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the claims of sexual assault of an unnamed patient at the Optimal Cancer Center in Lagos.

Following a video that appeared online, the state’s commissioner for health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, issued the directive on Monday.

The commissioner stated: “I have instructed HEFAMAA to investigate and report back on a viral video that is allegedly the work of the founder of Optimal Care Cancer Centre.”

Abayomi went on to say that the agency would send a team of observers to the facility in order to gather reliable information about the claims.

He gave the populace the assurance that if the facility did not adhere to the required standards, the state government, run by Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would apply the proper consequences in compliance with the laws currently in effect.

Abayomi added: “Furthermore, the incident will also be submitted by HEFAMAA to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency for any necessary action that may be warranted. This is in line with the state government’s zero tolerance policy for sexual abuse and violence.”

In order to protect the citizens’ health and well-being, the commissioner urged the general public to support the state government in its fight against unethical behavior in the public health sector.
