With two goals in the second half on Sunday, November 27, the Atlas Lions of Morocco shocked Belgium and won the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 24 years.

It was Morocco’s first victory in Qatar 2022 and second spotless performance in the match.

Based on their previous performances in World Cup group stage matches, Belgium was the clear favorite to defeat Morocco.

However, that wasn’t the case in Sunday’s tie as Belgium players were subdued by two second-half goals from substitute players, Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Abdoukhal.

The Atlas Lions, before Sunday, last tasted victory at the France 1998 World Cup when they trounced Scotland 3-0.

Morocco have won a World Cup game for just the third time in their history, a  3-1 win vs. Portugal in 1986, a 3-0 vs. Scotland in 1998 and now the 2-0 vs. Belgium in 2022.

Belgium’s Michy Batshuayi received a pass from Thorgan Hazzard but the shot on target was blocked by goalkeeper Muni in the fifth minute.

Inter pass exchange between Thorgan and De Bruyne from a freekick gave the Red Devils a corner kick in the 16th minute.

Belgium then failed to get the ball into the net after Amadou Onana’s header from a corner went slightly off target in the 17th minute.

Two minutes later, Meunier sent a direct shot into the hands of Moroccan goalkeeper, Munir.

However, Morocco and Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech put up a long-distance shot that went off-target in the 21st minute.

Then in the 33rd minute, Meunier’s through ball to Batshuayi was stopped by Munir. Two minutes later, Archaf Hakimi blasted wide what could have been a chance for Morroco to score first.

Just before halftime, Hakim Ziyech’s direct freekick goal was removed by VAR after Romain Saiss’ was found to be in an offside position.

Five minutes into the second half, Ziyech’s freekick was also saved by Courtois .

In the 57th minute Sofiane Boufal added to Morocco’s attempt with his shot that went past the goalpost.

Belgium then got their first shot on target in the second half after substitute as Mertens hit a close-range shot that was pulled out by Munir in the 65th minute.

At the 73rd minute, Morocco substitute Abdelhamid Sabiri broke the deadlock spinning a direct freekick past Courtois.

Sabiri’s goal is Morocco’s first-ever World Cup goal from a freekick.

Morocco tried defending the solitary goal as Coach Walid Regragui switched to a 5-3-2 formation and then in another surprise, scored a stoppage-time second goal from another substitute, Aboukhal Zakaria, who blasted through Courtois from Ziyech’s cutback pass. Morocco will face Canada in their final group game while Belgium have a date with Croatia.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in Portugal’s 3-2 World Cup victory over Ghana on Thursday, November 24, making him the first male football player to score at five World Cups in a 20-year period.

The 37-year-old broke the previous mark when he converted a penalty in the 65th minute of Portugal’s Group H match against the Black Stars at the 974 Stadium in Doha.

He won the spot-kick himself when he was brought down by a challenge from Mohammed Salisu.

Cristiano Ronaldo has declared that his relationship with Manchester United is now a closed chapter

The 37-year-old, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract at Old Trafford after his row with the club, made history on Thursday night, November 24, by becoming the first man to score at five World Cups, his 65th-minute penalty helping Portugal beat Ghana 3-2 at Stadium 974.

Ronaldo was named FIFA’s Player of the Match, which meant he had to attend the ensuing press conference.

He stayed in the room for 132 seconds and answered one question but, for the first time, publicly addressed his situation.

‘It is important we won,’ said Ronaldo, shaking his head when he heard United’s name mentioned. ‘It was a week that finished this chapter. It is closed and now I want to start with the good foot. We started here, we won. I want to help my team and all the rest of the squad.

He added: ‘This was a beautiful moment – my fifth World Cup. It is very important to win. We know in these competitions, the first match in crucial. But, also, the world record, the only player to score in five World Cups makes me very proud. The team made a good result in a tough game.’

David Beckham is reportedly open to holding talks with potential buyers of Manchester United after The Glazers announced they are ready to sell the football club.

According to Financial Times, the United legend is open to holding talks with interested parties bidding for the club.

The report states: “The former England captain’s history with United and affinity with its fans could prove vital to any bidders if the Glazers go ahead with a deal, the people said.”

“The current owners said they would “consider all strategic alternatives, so an outright sale is not guaranteed.”

“One banker close to the process said United could be sold for close to £7bn.

“A bidding war could send it higher, they added.”

“However, some footballing finance experts have said that even a £4bn-£5bn price tag was too high for a club that was unprofitable last year. ”

“At these valuations, prospective owners need to have deep pockets, with investors perhaps based in the US or the Middle East eyeing the football club, analysts said.”

“While Beckham alone might not have the wealth to buy Man United, his global reach and affinity with the fans could prove to be a huge boost to any buying parties.”

The Glazers, who bought Man United for £790million back in 2005, put the Old Trafford club on the market on Tuesday. The family is looking for as much as £8billion to sell the club.

In another development,  British billionaire and lifelong Man United fan Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to launch a bid to take over the Red Devils after his attempt to buy the club in the summer proved fruitless. He also tried and failed to buy Chelsea last season.

Ratcliffe owns petrochemical giant Ineos and is one of the richest men in the world.

After his contract with Manchester United expires, Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly about to get a hefty offer to play in Saudi Arabia’s Pro League.

After delivering an angry interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticized the team, Erik ten Hag, and the Glazers, the 37-year-old left United.

Ronaldo had previously been offered a £210 million contract by the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal for two seasons. He declined it, though, in order to keep playing football at the top level.

The Telegraph claims that after leaving United, Ronaldo might be presented with a substantial offer to compete in the Pro League of Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo’s presence in the Middle East, in Saudi Arabia’s opinion, may benefit their joint candidacy for the 2030 World Cup.

The announcement of Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United was made by the Red Devils on Tuesday in a 67-word statement.

United’s lawyers had been looking to tear his deal up since Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Morgan aired in two parts last week.

A statement released by United on Tuesday evening read: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

‘The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

‘Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.’

Ronaldo released his own statement following the news, writing: ‘Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.

‘I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.’

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who was recently fired by English team Manchester United, has been ruled out by Nigerian club Lobi Stars.

The club said in a tweet it shared that neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor his agents have received any communication from the club’s management.

The tweet read;

“Please be informed that #WeAreLobi is yet to make any contact with representatives of #CristianoRonaldo following his release from Manchester United.

“We wish him the best & #LobiStars will make no further comment on this.”

The FA reportedly slammed Cristiano Ronaldo with a £50,000 fine and a two-match suspension for shattering a fan’s phone earlier this year.

In April, after Manchester United lost to Everton at Goodison Park, Ronaldo seemed to slap Jacob Harding’s hand as he went down the tunnel, breaking the youngster’s phone.

Following his actions, Ronaldo posted an apology to his Instagram page.

‘It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing,’ he wrote.

‘Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.

‘I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship.’

The 37-year-old was interviewed by police in relation to alleged assault and criminal damage and received a caution for his behaviour.

Ronaldo also looked to apologise to Harding in person, but the mother of the 14-year-old autistic boy Sarah Kelly refused, leading to a 10-minute phone call, with Kelly later branding the superstar as ‘arrogant’.

‘He asked me if I would like to come down and meet his family,’ she told The Mirror. He said, “I’m not a bad dad”. I said to him, “I never said you were a bad dad”.

‘He said, “I had a terrible upbringing, I lost my dad”. I said to him, “Everybody has a sob story Ronaldo, I lost my dad young, I’ve had cancer”.

‘He kept calling me Jack and didn’t even know my name and I said, “My name is Sarah” and he said, “Oh, Sarah, I’m sorry”.

never called Jacob by his name either; he always referred to him as “the youngster.” He added, “I know the boy has issues. He doesn’t have a problem; he just has a disability. You are the one who has a problem, I informed him.

Ronaldo, according to Sarah, is the “most conceited man I’ve ever spoken to” and believes he has “got away with it.”

Following the conclusion of their investigation, the FA fined and suspended Ronaldo, as The Mirror reported.

Last month, when the investigation was still ongoing, it was believed that Ronaldo would accept the FA’s charge of illegal behavior but was adamant about fighting the possibility of a ban.

It remains unclear whether he will dispute the punishment handed down.

The charge comes just a day after he ended his second spell at United following his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan where he criticised the club.

United announced that Ronaldo’s contract had been terminated by ‘mutual consent’ on Tuesday evening November 22.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a forward for Manchester United, has announced his immediate departure from the English Premier League (EPL) team.

The Portuguese captain’s second stint at Old Trafford came to an end as a result of the development, which he stated made him feel betrayed by the team.

In a recent interview, Ronaldo expressed his disdain for Erik ten Hag, the club’s manager. This put him in a precarious position.

He returned to the team in August 2021 after spending eight years (from 2003 to 2009) and eight major titles with them.

Manchester United added last Friday that they had taken “appropriate steps” in response after stating last week that they would address Ronaldo’s remarks only after gathering all the information.

“By mutual consent, Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Manchester United with immediate effect.

Manchester United issued a statement in which it thanked him for his “immense contribution” during his two stints at Old Trafford, during which he scored 145 goals in 346 games, and expressed its best wishes to him and his

family for the future.

Everyone at Manchester United is still committed to building on the progress made under Ten Hag and collaborating to achieve success on the field.

Months ago, Ten Hag claimed Ronaldo

This was when the forward walked down the tunnel with a few minutes of the game remaining after being put on the bench.

The 37-year-old was then not part of the squad which faced Chelsea the following Saturday before returning to the fold.

Ronaldo later said in the interview he regretted leaving early against Spurs, but added his decision to walk off came because he felt “provoked” by Ten Hag.

Ronaldo said in a statement on Tuesday that he loved the club and the fans.

“… That will never ever change,” he added. “However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

Raphael Varane, Ronaldo’s French team mate at Manchester United, said last week that the Portuguese’s comments had affected the club’s players.

Many of them are also at the World Cup in Qatar.

Ronaldo confirmed on Monday that an awkward handshake between him and midfielder Bruno Fernandes that was caught on camera and went viral was the result of a joke.

He said the joke was between the Portugal and Manchester United teammates.

Ronaldo added that he did not believe his actions would affect Portugal’s squad, adding that he felt great about the country’s chances of winning the World Cup.

The English Premier League (EPL) champions of Manchester City have announced that manager Pep Guardiola has extended his contract by two years, keeping him with the team through 2025.

Since taking over in 2016, the 51-year-old has led Manchester City to four league crowns, four League Cups, and the FA Cup. His contract was slated to expire in the summer.

“I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City Football Club will continue,” club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak disclosed in a statement.

“He has already contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation, and it’s exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition that he clearly still has.”

In an apparent demonstration of sympathy for anti-government rallies in their home nation, Iranian players chose not to sing their national anthem prior to their World Cup match against England.

The death of Mahsa Amini while in jail in September served as the catalyst for a harsh crackdown on protests in Iran.

Human rights activists have said more than 400 protesters have been killed and 16,800 others arrested in a crackdown by Iran’s security forces.

Iran’s leaders say the protests are “riots” orchestrated by the country’s foreign enemies including the US and Israel.

On Monday, November 21, during the playing of the national anthem, spectators yelled and jeered while others raised signs reading “Woman, Life, Freedom” and the players declined to perform the anthem.

In the first half, Iranian supporters could also be heard chanting “Ali Karimi,” a reference to the former footballer who is one of the most vocal critics of the Islamic Republic and one of the movement’s most well-known figures.

The Persian word “Be-Sharaf,” which means dishonorable, was also being

chanted by the supporters. This is an adverb that Iranian protesters have used to criticize the country’s security forces.

Iran’s captain, Ehsan Hajsafi, stated before the game that the team “support” those who had passed away.

Coach Carlos Queiroz said his players were “free to protest” over women’s rights in their home country as long as it “conforms with the World Cup regulations and is in the spirit of the game”.
.

Queiroz added that the political unrest at home had taken a toll on his squad.

“It is not right to come to this World Cup and ask them to do things that are not their responsibility,” added the former Manchester United assistant. “They want to bring pride and joy for the people.

“You don’t even imagine behind the scenes what these kids have been living in the last few days, just because they want to express themselves as footballers.”
